Chrome issues (2021)
Our students have reported significant freezes or slow downs when using Chrome.
While working in Firefox, Safari or in an Incognito window of Chrome may be an effective workaround, some users require or prefer the use of Google Chrome without being incognito.
The issue between our courses and Chrome is unknown, however it is not unique to our site or servers.
This article may be a solution to the issue, though it is currently unproven.
Incognito Mode
Try turning on the incognito mode and it may solve the problem for you. If you need help with this setting go to https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95464?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop
If that works, and you don't want to stay in incognito mode, then you should turn all of your extensions off and see if you can use Moodle properly. If so, turn the extensions on one at a time until the problem occurs. Then you know which extension causes the problem and you can decide whether you need it on while completing our course.
Clearing DNS
Alternatively you can clear the DNS in your browser.
DNS (or Domain Name System) is a naming system that your computer uses to help identify other computers and services. If an issue arises in your computer's naming system, it can affect access to other services. By resetting the DNS, we can reset connections and possibly resolve issues.
To reset DNS in Chrome:
- Navigate to chrome://net-internals (please copy and paste this link into a new tab)
- Select DNS in the left sidebar
- Select the button "Clear host cache". Nothing will visually happen when you select the button.
- Completely close down Chrome. This is best achieved by restarting your computer.
After resetting DNS and closing Chrome, head back to oltschool.com to see if the issue has been resolved.
